Biofresh Safestore To Celebrate 21st Birthday At Strategic Potato Storage Day

The UK’s leading potato sprout control technology provider will celebrate 21 years of helping growers achieve the best conditions for storing their produce at next month’s Strategic Potato Storage Day.

To mark its anniversary, Biofresh Safestore will offer a ten per cent installation discount to attendees who commit to a site survey on the day.

Organised by Potato Storage Insight, Strategic Potato Storage Day will be held at Fleet Lodge Farm, Holbeach, on Wednesday 21st May.

As well as hearing about how the Biofresh Safestore can cost-effectively suppress potato sprouting and the systems latest features including Pulsed Start functionality, visitors to the event will also discover the results of a field trial undertaken by SDF Agriculture, PSI and the University of Greenwich and hear about the latest developments in energy management and storage efficiency.

“We are really looking forward to the Strategic Potato Storage Day. Potato Storage Insight has put together a very interesting series of talks and presentations, and it will be a great chance for us to celebrate our 21 years of helping store managers extend the life of their potatoes,” says Jeremy Barraclough, operations director of Biofresh Safestore. “Since we completed our first Safestore system installation in 2004, we have gone on to install systems treating more than half a million tonnes of potatoes at farms and potato stores across the UK, Europe and further afield.

“Last year, we marked 20 years at the first ever Potato Days UK event and offered a ten per cent discount to people committing to a site survey at the event. As it was so well received, we thought we would repeat it at the Strategic Potato Storage Day to mark our 21st anniversary!”

Ethylene-based potato sprout suppressant systems, such as Biofresh Safestore, are proven to be the all-round best solution for extending the life of potatoes without any chemical residue. The Biofresh Safestore system is the most cost-effective ethylene system available and is suitable for facilities with single stores as well as  multi-chamber facilities, where it can connect and control all stores from one central system.

In the UK, ethylene has been used commercially since 2003 as an alternative to more traditional chemical-based sprout suppressants.

Originally targeted at providing a residue-free sprout suppressant solution for pre-pack crops, further to the demise of CIPC in Europe, ethylene is also used extensively in crops destined for processing.

Managed by a central control panel equipped with an easy-to-use HMI panel, Biofresh Safestore’s system features sensors that regulate the distribution of the ethylene gas to ensure optimal conditions, regardless of store size or whether a single or multiple store site is being controlled.
